When it comes to the blue-white porcelains, it is known that that is one of the four famous traditional Porcelains in Jingde town. But for its origin, maybe people don't know there exists a moving legend.
It is said that there was a carved young craftsman called Zhao Xaiobao in the town in the Yuan dynasty. Liao Qinghua was Xiaobao's intended wife. One day, Qinghua asked Xiaobao: "Wouldn't it be better if the flowers can be drawn on the Porcelain?" Xiao Bao frowned and said: " I have thought that for long time. However, I have sought for many years, but I still can't find the suitable pigment for painting." After hearing that, Qinghua quietly made decision to find this pigment at any cost.
Then Qinghua begged for her uncle who specialized in finding ore. She asked her uncle to take her to mountains so as to find the ore. In the next day, Qinghau and her uncle came to the mountains at dawn. With the three months passing by, winter was coming. As Qinghua and her uncle were still not back, Xiaobao was very worried about them and then directly went to Qingshi mountain to find them, ignoring the biting wind and thick snow. After walking for three days and nights, Xiaobao finally came at the foot of the mountain. Then he found a wisp of blue smoke coming from the mountains. He was suddenly aware that he should rush towards the direction of smoking.
When coming into the mountain valley, Xiaobao clearly saw that the blue smoke came form a collapsed cellar. Then he went to the shabby kiln. At the one corner of the kiln, there filled different kinds of stones; on the other corner of the kiln, there lied a ragged old man. There was a stack of firewood beside the old man with a wisp of blue smoke. Only when Xiaobao carefully looked at the old did he find this old man was Qinghua's uncle. Then he hurriedly held up his uncle and ceaselessly shouted that:“Uncle, uncle……”. Then the old man gradually came to life. When the old man found he was Xiaobao, the old man hurriedly said to him: "Quickly, quickly, find Qinghua quickly, she is on the mountain.” Followed the direction that the old man pointed at, Xiaobao finally fond the frozen dead body of Qinghua. On the snow beside her, there put a stack of well-selected stones. Seeing this situation, Xiaobao cried loudly. After burying Qinghua's body, Xiaobao lent an arm to this old man and then went back to the town with tears. From then on, Xiaobao devoted himself to researching the painting ingredient. He made the stones that was found by Qinghua into powders. After his blending ingredients, he soaked the painting brush into it and then painted the flowers on the porcelains. Through the high-temperature firing, the surface of the white-green porcelains appeared the blue pattern. Therefore, the blue-White porcelains were born.
The emergence of blue-white porcelains makes a breakthrough for Chinese porcelains glazed in monochrome color, which creates a new era for porcelain decoration. In memory of Liao Qinghua for the next generations, people call the painting blue flower on the porcelain "blue flower", which has been used so far.
